Today, I twisted my left ankle while playing racquetball. Same ankle I twisted last time, and in a similar manner. I was back-peddling and moving to my left when it rolled. But the second I felt it roll, I didn't try to fight it and stay up, I just went down immediately. I can gingerly walk on it, but it hurts like a bitch and is hella swollen, so for now, I'm just gonna r.i.c.e. it out (rest, ice, compress, elevate). I'm most likely going to call in sick tomorrow, cause there's no way I'm walking to the bus stop, then to my office. And my apartment is on the 2nd floor. Getting up those stairs was a pain in the arse.
I don't know how professional athletes play with sprained ankles (Steph Curry, Ben Rothlisberger, Rob Gronkowski, I'm looking at you). I'm about the same weight as some of them, but this thing hurts when I put any kind of weight on it! I know they're being treated by professional medical staff with world-class treatments, hella taped up and probably on meds & shots, but still. I can barely walk, and they're all running around on it. But I guess that's why they're getting paid the big bucks.
Sucks too, cause I had just started to go back to the gym. I hope this will heal quickly, hopefully in time for the cabin trip in less than 2 weeks. I'm kind of looking forward to snowboarding this year, since I didn't board at all last year, and I need to test out my new bindings. And next time I play racquetball, I'm wearing my high-top basketball shoes. No more of this ankle twisting bullsh*t.
