cheese rolls

  • Kitchen Beast Mode

For some reason, I decided to make hella things today. And everything is mostly homemade.

Bulgogi, to bring over to Elway's on Wednesday for the Warriors Spurs game. Bought thinly sliced rib eye from the market. I made the marinade myself this time, instead of buying the pre-mixed one.

Chicken Tenders, for dinner tonight & lunch tomorrow. I bought boneless chicken breasts at Costco, then slices them up. I made the batter from scratch.

Chocolate chip & white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. I used Alton Brown's "The Chewy" recipe. I like making it myself because whenever I buy the pre-made cookie dough, it always bakes hella flat and looks like a coaster or CD. When I make the cookie dough myself, it looks like an actually cookie, and I can mix & match the flavors.

Cheese & Berries (strawberry & blueberry) Rolls, since it's been a while since the last time I made them. The puff pastry is store-bought, but I made the cream cheese filling from scratch. I was a bit rusty, as I kind of burnt them a bit. And I accidentally bought the Safeway-brand cream cheese instead of Philadelphia, so the cream filling was soft & soupy. But I still think they came out ok.

I also managed to do 2 loads of laundry, and download today's TV shows, too. Super productive day!! And now I'm gonna pass out.

  • Cheese Rolls, take 2

Batch 1 vs batch 2. Waaaaay smaller.

    Experimented with shapes & layers.

This time, I made them way smaller, put more sugar on the top, and more sugar in the cream cheese filling. It tasted a lot closer to Porto's than my first batch. I used the cream cheese in the first batch, but with more sugar, so it was still more liquidy than I would've liked. I think it's because I used reduced fat cream cheese. Next time, I'll spring for the regular stuff. Other than that, I think I just have to bake them a little longer to get them more crisp on the outside. I'm getting close!

  • Homemade Porto's-style Cheese Rolls

I took a crack at making something like Porto's cheese rolls. I looked up a recipe online, and it seemed simple enough. My first try didn't come out too bad, but it needs some tweaks.

I don't know what's up with my iPhone camera, but the cream cheese isn't really that yellow-ish, I guess it's just bad lighting. I had mixed the cream cheese filling ingredients a bit too much, so it was more liquidy than solid, so it came oozing out the sizes, and I couldn't properly seal the ends. And they were big & dense (they felt real heavy). Next time, I'll make them about half the size. As for the tweaks, I need to add more sugar to the cream cheese filling and more sugar on the outer crust.
