  • iPhone 5? no thanks (?!)

So my dad called me out of the blue today and told me to the order the iPhone 5, that he'd pay for it. He said he'd spring for the 32GB version too. I was like, alright I'll check the Apple Store at the Arden Mall tomorrow and then hung up. I forgot to ask him what color he wanted, so I called him back and asked, and he said "oh, whatever color you want, it's for you" and I was like "oh WHAT."

Apparently, he already ordered one for himself, using my auntie's upgrade on our family talk plan, and just wanted to be nice and get me one too. But the thing is, I'm not all that sure that I actually want the iPhone 5. My iPhone 4 is still running fine. My power button sticks a lil bit, but it's not that bad, and the home button and screen are still great (knock on wood).

And then there's the whole stupid new Lightning connector cable. I have the old 30-pin cable everywhere: my desk at work, my desk in Sac, my desk in Vallejo, in the mini, in the X5, in my laptop bag & my Sony iPod alarm dock that I use daily. I'd have to buy the stupid $30 adapter for all those cables or buy multiple new cables which are $40 each or use the 1 same cable everywhere I go. And I'd still have to buy at least 1 adapter regardless for the Sony alarm dock, cause I use that as my morning alarm and as a charger and I'm not spending another $100+ on a new alarm dock with the stupid new connector.

I really wasn't too impressed with the iPhone 5 when they announced it anyways. Oowww, it has a taller screen and panoramic pictures and it's lighter......big whoop. I just can't get over the stupid new connector. So I will most probably pass on this, but I'm leaving myself the option of totally caving in. I'd honestly rather spend that money on stuff for my car, like a new intercooler diverter or lower strut brace for the mini, or a cold-air intake for the x5. Or tools. I could always use more tools.

Oh, did I mention that I think the new connector is stupid? Cause it is. In Europe, Apple is legally obligated to provide a Lightning-to-micro-USB adapter because some European authority made micro-USB the standard charging cable for ALL cell phones. So Apple provides one, for free, with each iPhone 5, and also sells them separately. But here in the US? Not freakin available because Apple's gonna hate like that. They probably won't provide it here until the US passes a similar law standardizing cell phone cables. One of the presidential candidates should get on this. It could probably swing them a ton of votes. Stupid new connector....
